Description:

Large fusion scale fish from the oil shale, about 180 million years old. The slab also contains a smaller fish and a belemnite. The slate was ground and polished, so that one can see nicely the different colored sediment layers in relief. Especially well preserved are the black melting scales, which are very rarely well preserved, because they often flake off during finding and preparation. Also you can see very well the eye and the gills and the whole fins are perfectly preserved. From the black Jurassic of the Swabian Alb. This piece is an original, where small parts have been added only to the smallest extent. It was restored by a full-time taxidermist. The oil shale is also called posidonia shale. It is a very decorative piece that can be hung on the wall like a picture.
